Seminar on Collaboration between municipalities and civil society in Almaty

On the 27-28th of March, 2018 AFEW Kazakhstan with support of the Public Health Department of Almaty city, within the framework of “Fast-track TB/HIV responses for key populations in EECA cities’’ regional project, arranged the seminar «Collaboration between municipalities and civil society: models and realities» hold by international trainer from Swiss organization licit.
The goal of this seminar was to investigate current situation in Almaty city, particularly the mechanisms of interaction between the city municipality and the civil society, to discuss gaps and difficulties, and to develop a strategy for efficient partnership. Specific session was provided to learn the experience of Berne city, Switzerland, to show successful practices of harm reduction programs’ implementation, drug policy and strategies to enable interaction between city municipalities, NGOs and key populations.
The participants of the seminar: representatives of the Public Health Department under the municipality (Akimat) of Almaty, AIDS Center of Almaty, Interdistrict anti-TB Dispensary of Almaty, Narcological Center for medical and social correction of Almaty, UNAIDS, Global Fund in Kazakhstan, Global Health Center in Central Asia, members of ENPUD, ЕCОМ, SWAN in Almaty, as well as other HIV/TB-related NGOs.
Three major strategic directions were determined upon completion of the seminar to improve the existing mechanisms of inter-departmental collaboration.
